The Global Mobility Office (GMO) travelled to Singapore to spend several days meeting potential and existing semester exchange and short-term mobility partners. Globally, there are four major international education conferences – NAFSA which is held in North America, EAIE in Europe, AIEC in Australia and then the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) conference that is held in Asia.

This year APAIE 2018 was held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The theme of the conference was on “The Impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Higher Education in Asia-Pacific” and the event attracted well-over 2,300 participants. The President of APAIE, Professor Sarah Todd from Griffith University (Australia) noted that she was pleased to see an “increased number of delegates gather from around the world to learn more about higher education in the Asia Pacific” adding that APAIE offered “valuable opportunities to engage with colleagues and debate the future of what is often described as one of the most exciting higher education regions in the world”.

The Taylor’s University team was part of the Education Malaysia (EMGS) booth which had representatives from both public and private universities in Malaysia. Professor Perry Hobson, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement pointed out that, “Events such as this allow us to renew connections with existing partners but more importantly to make contact with additional countries and institutions we have not previously had connections with” adding that, “this year we noticed a lot more interest from Australian and American universities in our Summer School offerings and short-term mobility opportunities”. Last year, the APAIE 2017 conference was held in Kaohsiung (Taiwan), and APAIE 2019 will be held at KLCC in Kuala Lumpur – (Global Matters 2018)
