Bringing Joy to the Community with 4,500 Packets of Bubur Lambuk

The spirit of gotong-royong was strongly felt at the Bubur Lambuk Amal Media 2013 as over 50 students and lecturers from Taylor’s University School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (TCHT) gathered as early as 8a.m. on a Saturday morning to cook up some 15 pots of extremely delicious Bubur Lambuk at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.

It was indeed worth every effort of these students and lecturers as over 4,500 packets of Bubur Lambuk were packed and distributed to various charity organisations, orphanages, uniformed units, mosques, suraus, Taylor’s University’s and its neighbouring community for Iftar at the end of the day.

Gracing the event this year was YB P. Kamalanathan, Deputy Minister of Education Malaysia who enjoyed seeing how the event has made the students and lecturers from different races and nationalities bonded. “Walking through the crowd made me quite appreciative of the Malaysian culture and how we are united as a people.”

“Making Bubur Lambuk is an event that is truly representative of what Malaysia stands for- people coming together, irregardless of the community they come from, to lend a helping hand. This muhibbah spirit is something that I have always admired among citizens of our country and it is truly heart-warming to see staff and students from Taylor's University and members of the community coming together in this manner,” added YB. P Kamalanthan, who paid his debut visit to the campus.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hassan Said, Vice Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University praised the students and lecturers for their commitments. “As an education institution, we always strive to make sure that our students and staffs are not only focusing on academic excellence, but also taking the opportunity to give back to the society through meaningful CSR events as such.”

“Through the support from our TCHT, we are pleased to contribute our skills and manpower in preparing and packing these bubur lambuk for our guests today,” said Prof. Hassan.

Also attended the event were Mr. Neethiahnanthan A.R., Dean of TCHT and Datuk Yusri Ahmad, Advisor, Program Bubur Lambuk Sempena Ulang tahun Ke-10.

The event was held in collaboration with the Welfare, Sports and Recreation Club of the New Straits Times Post, with ingredients sponsored by Giant Hypermarket, Adabi, Dutch Lady and gas sponsored by Petronas.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Taylor’s University is involved in the annual charity event in conjunction with the Ramadhan month.
