Taylor's University School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts Associate Professor Dr Vikneswaran Nair was awarded the prestigious “Hind Rattan Award” for "outstanding services, achievements and contributions” in his field of sustainable tourism by the Non-Resident Indian Welfare Society of India, an organization that falls under the auspices of the Government of India. Dr Vicky, as known to staff and students alike, expressed surprise and pride about receiving the award from the Society.
“I was pleasantly surprised when I learnt about the fact that I was to receive the award,” said Dr Vicky, who shared that the award was presented to recipients on January 24th, the eve of India’s Republic Day. The award—which translates to “Jewel of India” in English—is given to about 25-30 non-resident Indians who have made exceptional contributions to society.
Dr Vicky, who flew to Delhi for the ceremony, looks forward to working with industry players in the Indian tourism sector to promote sustainable tourism in the country.
