Taylor’s University hosted its first EUMCCI ‘Career Fair’ at the Lakeside campus as part of the EU-Talent Roadshow. The event was opened by H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia, and Mr Jari Niemi, President of the Malaysian-Finnish Business Council. It also featured presentations and booths from representatives of several top European companies such as; BMW Malaysia, Siemens Malaysia, Infineon Technologies, T-Systems Malaysia, Hauni Malaysia, Muehlbauer Technologies, Jowat Manufacturing SEA, Technip FMC and ST Microelectronics.

The European Union-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI) was stablished to promote, support and develop the business interests of the European Union (EU) member countries Malaysia. Out of the top seven Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) source countries in Malaysia - three are from Europe. This means there are literally hundreds of European companies operating in Malaysia, and they are all looking for talented young people.

The roadshow event was only held at three universities – the University Science Malaysia (USM) in Penang, the University of Malaya in KL and then at Taylor’s University Lakeside campus. This unique event brought onto campus a range of companies who operate in Malaysia, but who have their registered headquarters in European countries such as Germany, Italy and Finland. Ms Sandy Tan, the Head of Career Services at TU said, “This event was a great opportunity for Taylor’s students to meet with a number of globally minded European companies.

They have operations right here in Malaysia and they are looking for candidates to fill roles as engineers, accountants, sales and marketing, scientists, software engineers, designers amongst others”.
Professor Perry Hobson, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement added that he “would like to also thank all the partners working behind the scenes  for this event who included Business France, The Italian Malaysian Business Association, the Malaysian-Finnish Business Council and the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce amongst others”. The EU Ambassador is a familiar face on the Taylor’s University campus, having been here for the EU-Climate Change Diplomacy Day, to give a SHINE Distinguished Lecture and to meet also with European academics sponsored to come to Malaysia under Erasmus+ as well as with Asian students sponsored under EU-SHARE - (Global Matters 2018)
